Henk Bemboom, founder of Slagharen

Henk Bemboom was the Dutch entrepreneur behind Shetland Ponypark Slagharen, opened in 1963. His original idea combined holiday cottages with Shetland ponies and a simple family leisure offer, which gradually became one of the best-known theme park resorts in the Netherlands.

His approach was based on accessible family recreation and good value for visitors. Over time, the pony park expanded with rides, swimming facilities, play areas and a stronger amusement park identity, laying the foundations for the Slagharen known today.
