Behind Bommelwereld

Edwin Bomers, owner and director of Marveld Recreatie, developed the idea of an indoor park in Groenlo for more than a decade. He wanted an all-season family destination that would complement the neighbouring holiday resort.

Giving the Bommelsaga an address

The partnership with Toonder Compagnie turned that ambition into a defined world. Bomers brought together Marveldʼs tourism development and Marten Toonderʼs heritage to create Bommelstein, the lands of Rommeldam and their attractions.

His initiative led to the start of construction in 2023 and the public opening on 3 October 2025. It remains visible in the siteʼs dual identity: a contemporary family park and a lasting home for the characters, stories and Bommelzolder collection.
