Willem Ter Braake
The landscape architect behind the park
Willem Ter Braake was a Dutch landscape architect whose work in Luxembourg preceded Parc Merveilleux. After designing a flower exhibition in Mondorf-les-Bains, he proposed an enchanted park for Bettembourg inspired by Dutch examples.
An idea rooted in landscape
His project connected trees, gardens, storybook scenes and animals from the outset. That composition explains the parkʼs lasting form: experiences emerge along a walk instead of within a plan dominated by large mechanical rides.
The municipality and local shopkeepers gave practical means to the vision, but its landscape identity remains associated with Ter Braake and the 1956 opening.
