About this park
A short-lived park that became part of New Orleans history
Six Flags New Orleans was a theme park in eastern New Orleans, near the interchange of Interstate 10 and Interstate 510. It opened in 2000 as Jazzland, was reworked by Six Flags and reopened under the Six Flags New Orleans name in 2003, then closed after Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
The park was built around regional Louisiana themes: a Main Street entrance, Mardi Gras, Cajun Country, Pontchartrain Beach, Looney Tunes Adventures, Goodtime Gardens and a DC Comics area added during the Six Flags years. Its most memorable rides included Mega Zeph, Batman: The Ride, The Jester, Zydeco Scream, Muskrat Scrambler and Road Runner’s Express.
Why it still matters
The site is no longer an operating park, but it remains highly relevant for amusement park history. It tells a rare story of a modern regional theme park that opened with real ambition, changed ownership quickly, then disappeared after a natural disaster and years of failed redevelopment attempts.
For visitors reading about the park today, the page should be understood as a historical record. The former park site has been part of redevelopment and demolition work, and it should not be treated as a place to visit or explore.
