About this park

A walk through Earth’s deep past

Dinosaurier-Park Münchehagen is an open-air museum built around authentic fossil tracks. Its woodland trail follows the major geological periods and places more than four hundred life-size reconstructions in landscapes that immediately convey the scale of extinct animals.

The route begins long before dinosaurs, crosses ancient seas and the age of reptiles, reaches the world of large mammals and ends with early humans. The models are landmarks in that chronology, while the wider story focuses on habitats, changes in life and clues preserved in rock.

The original tracks of Münchehagen

The scientific heart of the park is the Saurierfährten natural monument. Beneath a vast protective hall, more than three hundred footprints preserved in stone record dinosaurs crossing an ancient coastal landscape. Visitors are looking at the site itself, not at a replica.

LIVE-Labor continues that encounter with physical evidence. Guests can watch genuine fossils being prepared and see modern tools used to document, scan and study them while preserving the marks of scientific work.

A museum that keeps evolving

Since 2025, Europasaurus-Inseln has explored an island fauna from the Late Jurassic discovered in Lower Saxony. Exhibitions about ancient seas and the Ice Age, interpretation camps, a hands-on hall and a large playground complete the park’s dual identity as a family destination and a palaeontological site open to visitors since June 1992.
