Bell’s closure and the returns that never happened

A closure more complex than a simple shutdown

The 2006 season marked the end of the historic Bell’s. The park left Expo Square after its lease was not renewed, at a time when the future of the site and the Tulsa State Fair midway were being reshaped. For visitors, the break was abrupt: a familiar local park disappeared from the place it had long occupied.

After the departure, Bell’s did not disappear completely. Rides remained in storage, a few later reappeared in West Tulsa, and several revival paths were considered. Coweta and then Broken Arrow briefly made a comeback seem possible, but no project brought the park back into lasting operation.

The Broken Arrow project shows how persistent that memory remained. Presented as a new chance for Bell’s, it was ultimately abandoned in 2023 when the landowner decided not to pursue the development and to sell the property. That decision closed one of the most recent chapters in the Bell’s name.
