Phantasmagoria: the dark ride that gave Bell’s another mood
Opened in 1973 and demolished in 2007, Phantasmagoria added a dark theatrical story to a park strongly shaped by its midway.
A look back at Phantasmagoria, Bell’s Amusement Park dark ride, its role in the park’s variety and its disappearance after closure.
Back to timelineA haunted ride in the middle of a family park
Phantasmagoria opened in 1973 and gave Bell’s a ride very different from the coasters, spinning rides and games. It introduced an enclosed route, sets, surprises and a haunted-house mood that clearly broadened the park’s personality.
Its historical interest also comes from its disappearance. The dark ride was demolished on June 19, 2007, after Bell’s closed for good. That demolition captures part of the park’s loss: not only large silhouettes such as Zingo disappeared, but also more interior and story-driven experiences.
