About this park

A mountain that became a thrill capital

Six Flags Magic Mountain opened on 29 May 1971 in the hills of Valencia, north of Los Angeles. Its identity grew less from one decorative style than from the exchange between steep Californian terrain and a collection of major rides visible across the valley.

Slopes shape the paths, overlooks and changes in elevation that give the property its unusual scale. Some rides hug the hillside while others command the basin below; the landscape connects lands ranging from mining frontier imagery to the worlds of DC Comics.

A roller-coaster laboratory

Gold Rusher preserves a link with opening day, while Great American Revolution marks an early turning point in the park’s history. X2, Tatsu, Full Throttle, Twisted Colossus and Wonder Woman Flight of Courage then represent several generations of invention, each using space and the human body differently.

That concentration inspired the name Thrill Capital of the World, yet the park is more than a record table. A carousel built in 1912, river rapids, family attractions and a reimagined Looney Tunes Land keep gentler rhythms alive among the large outlines of steel and timber.

Two neighbouring experiences

Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles occupies a separate seasonal water-park property next door, with pools, rivers and slides. Its proximity broadens the destination without merging its calendar or admission conditions into those of the theme park.

A history still in motion

Successive transformations have allowed traces of the original Magic Mountain, later Six Flags lands and rides rebuilt on their predecessors’ footprints to coexist. Announced for 2027, Thrill Glider is set to continue that story by turning the mountainside itself into the setting for a new kind of suspended flight.
