Description

A ruined abbey possessed by music

Danse Macabre leads into the Huyverwoud, around the remains of an abbey where the Charlatan family exploits travellers’ fears. Stones claimed by vegetation, old objects and fragments from Spookslot form a place that seems to carry its own memory. At first the threat remains diffuse, borne by voices and Saint-Saëns’s famous work.

Inside the chapel, the ghostly orchestra takes possession of the space. Floor, walls and horizon suddenly seem to obey the music, while darkness releases silhouettes that never remain clear for long. This loss of bearings gives the dance a collective scale, as though the whole abbey had awakened to draw in its guests.

The legacy of Spookslot transformed

Danse Macabre does not reconstruct the vanished haunted castle. It takes up its melody, certain objects and a Gothic sensibility to tell a new story within a fully inhabited territory. The Huyverwoud thus asserts its own identity while allowing traces of the attraction that once occupied the site to rise to the surface.
