A blind flight beneath the wings of the Roc

Vogel Rok carries its travellers into the darkness of a world inspired by Sindbad’s adventures. The gigantic silhouette of the bird guards the entrance, then night almost entirely erases the horizon. Changes of rhythm arrive without warning and create the feeling of a flight guided by an unseen creature.

Ruud Bos’s orchestral score carries the crossing with remarkable breadth. Bursts of light, celestial forms and appearances of the Roc offer a few bearings before immediately withdrawing them. The tale exists in this meeting of sound, speed and darkness, like a legend reduced to its most powerful images.

A musical identity at the heart of Reizenrijk

The great bird visible outside, the station and the soundtrack give Vogel Rok a personality beyond sensation alone. The attraction shows that Efteling can tell a story with very few images when each is precisely matched to the music. It remains a landmark in Reizenrijk and a singular interpretation of the Eastern myth of the Roc.
