A journey around the world in Jokie’s colours

Carnaval Festival crosses a succession of countries reimagined in Joop Geesink’s round, naïve and cheerful style. Jokie guides this indoor celebration, where architecture, costumes, animals and landscapes constantly change. Simple shapes and bright colours nevertheless make all these tableaux feel like members of the same family.

The melody returns like a refrain and joins the destinations into a continuous parade. Humour hides in a gesture, an unexpected encounter or a small mishap glimpsed in the background. Each scene reads quickly and then reveals one more detail, preserving the sense of a world that is always alive around Jokie and Jet.

An instantly recognisable fantasy

The attraction does not claim to reproduce the cultures it evokes faithfully; it composes an imaginary atlas bearing its creator’s graphic signature. Jokie and Jet later carried this world into shows, books and objects. Carnaval Festival therefore remains both a work in its own right and a major source of characters for Efteling.
