A miniature world behind the windows

The Diorama unfolds a vast landscape of mountains, villages, roads and railways where the scenes seem to continue their life independently of the gaze. Trains cross the hills, lights come on and tiny figures occupy the streets. The depth of the decor gives the impression of observing a territory much larger than the room.

Discovery relies on attention. A bridge, a station or a house may first dominate the view, then reveal a humorous detail, a hidden activity or a convoy in the distance. The variations in scale and lighting create a contemplative rhythm, very different from attractions based on the movement of the visitor.

The Diorama brings together in miniature several themes dear to Efteling: travel, inhabited landscapes and the fascination for an imaginary past. It remains a valuable example of an attraction where the staging is enough to create movement.
