2004: Bayern-Park changes scale

Growth had become necessary

During the 1990s and early 2000s, Bayern-Park added rides, playgrounds and food venues at a rapid pace. Visitor numbers and the variety of the offer no longer matched the original size of the grounds. In 2004, the park expanded from 250,000 to 400,000 m². This was more than an additional plot of land: it established the spacious character still felt today, with long views, separate sections and genuine landscaped transitions.

Rides and animals within the same development

The new section combined Twinbob-Rodelbahn, Kletterberg Zugspitz, Blütenrondell and additional services with enclosures for Barbary macaques, ibex, lynx, chamois, dwarf goats, deer and ponies. The park therefore continued two stories at once: the amusement park and the original wildlife park. Kletterberg Zugspitz, a large rope-climbing structure opened that year, became one of the family area’s recognisable landmarks until its removal during the 2017 redevelopment.

What the expansion still changes today

The 2004 expansion explains why a day at Bayern-Park naturally alternates rides, animals and walking. It also created space for later changes: Wildwasser-Rafting in 2007, Pirateninsel in 2017 and other projects could be accommodated within an already enlarged site. Visitors can feel this history without knowing every date. The rides are not arranged in one dense block; they emerge across a broad landscape that retains traces of earlier uses.
