Abenteuer Alm, the making of an alpine play landscape in Neuss
From a snow-sports resort to an outdoor park where timber, water and terrain tell one story
Opened in 2025, Abenteuer Alm turns part of SnowWorld Neuss into a broad outdoor landscape for climbing, sliding, playing with water and inventing personal routes. Its creation continues an evolution that began long before construction: the change from a ski-focused site into a year-round active leisure destination.
Back to timelineA snow resort broadens its horizon
The Neuss site began in 2001 around Germany’s first indoor ski slope, then gradually added a hotel, chalets, restaurants and outdoor activities. That growth changed its relationship with the seasons: the artificial mountain no longer needed to evoke winter alone, but could become a continuous setting for active leisure. When SnowWorld took full ownership in March 2024, construction of Murmel’s Alm and the new Biergarten gave that ambition a visible form.
The project does not simply line up standard play equipment. Kinderland Parks designs a complete activity landscape whose timber volumes, rocks, planting and animal characters share one visual language. VDH works in parallel on the buildings and infrastructure around it. Across this broad setting, the landscape creates continuity between small huts, climbing routes, water play and the major vertical landmarks.
A park built around movement
At the opening on 1 May 2025, Kraxelberg immediately becomes the centre of the story. Its mass of rock and timber is discovered from within: children move under nets, reach huts, change level and return to the ground through the Rutschgaudi slides. Around this play mountain, Gipfelrennen offers an open descent from the summit, while Adlerturm and Falkenflug set the landscape moving in the air.
Movement is not limited to height or speed. Wasserdorf lets children alter the flow themselves through pumps, gates and wheels. Murmel’s Tal, Kletteralm and Sandgrube reduce the scale for open exploration, invented stories and quieter gestures. The Murmel mascot connects these experiences without prescribing a route, giving the park one personality while allowing each place its own pace.
A new outdoor identity for SnowWorld
The park reports an average visit of almost four hours, showing that Abenteuer Alm is not a short add-on to the indoor slope. The Biergarten, shaded areas and proximity of other SnowWorld experiences create a substantial outdoor chapter within a stay. By giving families an autonomous world that remains connected to the resort, the 2025 opening completes a lasting change: in Neuss, alpine imagination no longer depends on snow and is now experienced through timber, water, terrain and shared play.
