2000 - Opening
Kinderstad Heerlen, from play hall to indoor amusement park
A quarter-century of play, rides and first thrills
Since 2000, the Van der Honing family has developed an indoor play town into a compact park where coasters, water and free movement coexist.
Back to timelineA town born under one roof
Kinderstad Heerlen opens in 2000 through the Van der Honing family. Calling it a town is more than decoration: the large hall links circulation paths, climbing structures, rides and rest areas like connected neighbourhoods. Max Majoor, its imaginary mayor, later gives this world a recognisable face.
Successive additions do not replace free play; they surround it with mechanical experiences. Softplay, Vulkaan, trampolines and the mat slide keep the idea of children choosing their own pace. Carousels and cars then add movement that is easy to read and share with family.
Coasters at a child's scale
The first Achtbaan in 2011 changes the venue's scale. Roller coasters become a lasting part of the indoor town.
Spinning Coaster extends that development in November 2018. Kinderstad now has two distinct coasters: one tells the story of a first train ride, the other plays with orientation.
A park that keeps moving
Top Dancer arrives in September 2026 as the new most dynamic experience. Its swinging platform confirms that the park does more than preserve its classics. It gradually enriches a distinctive formula: free play, family rides and a few sharper thrills under one roof.
This growth remains easy to read because Kinderstad keeps a regional scale. Visitors do not cross distant themed worlds: water sounds, rails, play nets and cafeteria tables share the same volume. That closeness turns a varied collection into a genuine family town.
