Escher Déierepark occupies two green hectares above Esch-sur-Alzette. Around 150 animals from roughly 25 species live in enclosures among the trees: fallow deer, mouflons, goats, sheep, small hardy cattle, marmots, raccoons, birds and farmyard animals.
The wooded landscape gives the place its character. Slopes, paths and clearings connect the enclosures while preserving the feeling of an urban park open to nature. Admission is free and the grounds remain accessible throughout the year.
Heemelwee offers supervised contact with familiar animals, while the educational farm presents old domestic breeds among its residents. These spaces do not seek spectacle: they reveal behaviour, differences in form and the patient relationship between people and animals.
Two playgrounds extend this family identity. Bamhauscafé, the Escher Bamhaiser and the Gaalgebus also connect the park with the wider Gaalgebierg leisure area without changing its primary purpose as a public animal park.
Opened in 1962, the park began as a place of rest and nature for a city shaped by industry. A redesign launched in 2011 renewed the enclosures and strengthened interpretation. The educational farm inaugurated in 2016, followed by the tree houses and café in 2017, gave new breadth to a municipal refuge that remains deeply connected with Esch.
