On 29 April 2014, Sam Clauw boards Bateau Pirate with a goal very different from that of ordinary visitors. The challenge is no longer to enjoy a few minutes of swinging, but to remain aboard for two days. As cycles repeat, the ship’s simple movement becomes a test of fatigue, rhythm and concentration.
A record linked to leopard conservation
After fifty hours, the world record is announced as broken. Yet the event is not only a personal performance: it also raises funds for ALTA, an organisation involved in leopard conservation. Choosing Bellewaerde naturally connects the challenge with the park’s animal identity. For two days, Bateau Pirate stops being simply a Canada ride and becomes the centre of a visible campaign.
