Bellewaerde’s Monorail: twenty-five years above the park
From 1983 to 2007, the elevated train crossed Jungle, Far West and Mexico before structural wear forced its removal.
The Monorail offered a view of Bellewaerde’s animals, rides and scenery that no longer exists. Its dismantling in 2008 removed one of the park’s great elevated lines.

In 1983, Bellewaerde opens a monorail built by the Ypres company Mahieu. From its cabins, visitors discover the park above the paths, with views over Jungle, Far West and Mexico. The journey is more than transport: it becomes a panoramic ride linking several park identities and revealing animals, water and major attractions at a different pace.
A structure reaching the end of its life
After the 2007 season, material fatigue and the age of the installation make restoration impractical. The Monorail closes, and its track, pylons and stations are dismantled in 2008. The loss goes beyond one ride: it removes a line that drew the park across the sky. The areas continue to evolve below, while the memory of the Monorail preserves views no current route reproduces exactly.
